Will and I went on a lunch date to Pizza Pi. Their website is not a reflection of the quality itself. Anika, over at Vegan Score, has noted repeatedly that they are good. So we decided to check it out, and since time together doing fun things is vital to maintaining a relationship… :D Well, guess what? She’s right. We split at 12 inch “St. Louis” which was pretty tasty. I am generally content to go to whatever restaurant and just order the anything that is vegan. I am not picky about what I eat… as long as it is vegan. At this place, EVERYTHING I could order and not have to worry about the ingredients. That was really nice. I realized, as not a drop of grease was coming off this pizza, being vegan is SO MUCH HEALTHIER in a lot of ways. I mean, I eat fat. I am not afraid to use olive oil in my cooking, or coconut oil or any oil, really. I felt full, but not sick. It was really nice.
Tomorrow is Christmas. Will and I, as Christmas gifts to ourselves, are taking a red-eye out to see our families in New York. I get anxious about traveling. Relevant to the rest of this post, are my eating habits. I am super fortunate to have friends and family members who are willing to accommodate my veganism. I always volunteer to cook for everyone, to make something tasty and as inclusive to as many people as possible. Traveling means being away from the comforts of one’s own food. It is a weird thing to be anxious about, and I am also super hesitant to overly impose on others so I feel a bit uncomfortable being vegan in these cases, though I have lots of good reasons that I am vegan that do not change. The balance of good guest and being firm in ones principles.
Think warm thoughts for us – and by that, I mean warm thoughts for the East coast so our flights aren’t canceled ;)
